Over the past decade, ASEAN's trade in goods with China more than doubled, reaching $722 billion in 2022 and accounting for nearly one-fifth of ASEAN's global trade. Since 2020, ASEAN and China have been each other’s largest trading partner.

Over the past decade, ASEAN’s trade with Japan and the EU and between ASEAN member states has shrunk as trading with China and the United States has increased. Trade with China grew from 13% to 19% of ASEAN’s global trade.
